Contact
lens care is a major segment of our practice. We specialize
in designing a well-fitting contact lens that provides
the patient with both good vision and comfort. Many
varieties of soft lenses, disposable lenses, astigmatic
lenses and gas permeable lenses are available. The new
bifocal disposable soft contact lens is in high demand
by the ever-growing baby-boomer generation. One day
disposable soft lenses for today’s active patient
are very popular. The convenience of two week or one
month replacement astigmatic soft lenses is an ideal
solution for many patients. We now have the thirty-day
Ciba Vision Night & Day lens available. Additionally,
contact lenses to change eye color are available in
a variety of shades.
The fitting properties of a contact lens are determined
by several factors including lens material, curvature,
diameter and power. The parameters must be compatible
with the curvature and size of the cornea. Considerable
professional judgment is required to obtain the best
fit. Frequently, a specific lens design must be worn
for a few days or weeks to determine lens-eye compatibility.
It would not be unusual to make a parameter change after
the lens fit has been evaluated. For this reason, regular
professional follow-up care is necessary.
Professional follow-up care is the most important ingredient
in successful long-term contact lens care. Patients
wearing contact lenses should have periodic contact
lens progress examinations. In addition, they should
have a comprehensive vision and eye health examination
every twelve months.
